The SIA cabin crew recruitment process is infamous for the never-ending queues during their walk-in interviews and their reputation for being a hard to please customer when it come to choosing cabin crews. Often times, it is a long process with many stages of interview before the lucky ones get the call to go for the signing of the contract.
It can seem daunting with the wealth of
information available on the internet about the subject. However, at the end of
the day, it is a job interview that you can prepare for systematically. Below
are a few important points in my personal opinion.
1.
Find
out more about the job. The image many have of a cabin crew
and the realities of the cabin crew job and lifestyle can be very different.
You don’t want to think you just landed your dream job and then realize you are
bonded for 18 months to something you absolutely hate.
2.
Get
to know the company. The facts about the company vision and
history and the department culture. Yes, SIA cabin crew role can be a real ego
crusher if you are a prideful junior crew. There is bitchiness, it is
manageable but if you can’t take it you will be miserable. As I’ve said above,
once you join you are in it for at least close to 2 years (4 months training +
18 months bond) of your life.
3.
Familiarize
with the interview process. It is all over the internet and I
shall not elaborate here. That ensures that you will not be overwhelmed on the
actual day. The actual process may differ from what you read but at least you
get a rough idea of what to expect.
4.
Prepare
all your information and documents. SIA is a company that
does not look well upon tardiness. Forgetting a certificate or any other
required document is not a good idea. Trust me, it will come back to bite you
later even if you get through the initial stage. Such as during the 1-to-1
interview.
5.
Hone
your interview skills. I can’t stress enough how important this point
is. You are not passively walking in and waiting for them to pick you as a
suitable candidate. You have to prove to them you are exactly what they are
looking for. For a good candidate, even SIA will wait.
6.
Get
help! Read up or talk to actual cabin crew if
you know any. If you know you need a few pointers in you image and interview
skill, consult a coach. Reading up and practicing will bring you far but some
times you need someone else to tell you exactly what you are doing wrong.
I help many candidates get their dream
cabin crew job with one-on-one image consultations and interview etiquette training. Leave a comment on what else you think is
important to get selected to be a cabin crew. Let’s discuss!
Pitted scar is not easy to conceal will SIA still considder?
ReplyDeleteCan i wear colour contact lens?
Wat kind of attire encourage ?
Wat mk me stand out of other??
Depends on where your scar is babe. If it is visible in uniform, you may not make it through the uniform round. You can refer to my post on scars & tattoos for a more elaboration.
DeleteAs for attire, while there is no need to go over the top in a suit, be at least in smart casual attire at the minimum. You are not allowed to wear coloured contacts during training or on board so I will suggest you do without it especially if it's of a very outrageous colour on Asian (e.g blue).
Lastly, just let your warm personality shine through. Don't do something on purpose during the interview just for the sake of standing out. It might actually backfire if you can't pull it off.
Im going to try emirates but i still prefer SIA
ReplyDeleteIF i got selected by emirate n go for SIA interview should i tell them?
Will that b advantages?
There is no need to and I don't see how telling SIA you got selected by Emirate can help. While both are cabin crew positions with established airlines, the selection criteria for these two airlines in terms of personality is quite different from what I've observed.
DeleteDo try the Emirates interview, it will be a good interview experience and it's always good to keep your options open.
